If the hustle and bustle of modern life’s got you down, Tom Nook has a business venture up his sleeve that he knows you’ll adore: his brand-new, ultra-exclusive Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package!
Before boarding your flight to the island, you will choose the island from a range of options. Choosing to live in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, for example, will affect the timing of the seasons. When the seasons change on the island, so do the activities.
After landing on the island, residents will receive a helpful orientation session from the Nook Inc. staff. At this time, you’ll be provided with the tent that’s included with your getaway package.
This is the first Animal Crossing game that I have owned, my wife introduced me to her New Leaf game and I was seriously intrigued as to the unique style and gameplay the likes of which I had, at the time, I had never played.
I am very, very impressed so far with what i’ve seen. I say ‘so far’ because one of the greatest things about this game is that Nintendo have stated that they will continue to update this game for at least the next couple of years. These aren’t just little updates either, they are very impressive. They range from seasonal changes to the wildlife and items available to new places to discover! This commitment from Nintendo is staggering and is something I wish more companies would commit too rather than throwing sequel after sequel at us!
Visually this game is simply divine, I mean if you are looking for true to life graphics then you are totally barking up the wrong tree with this game. As an animated game goes, I can’t fault it visually. From the waves in the ocean to the wind in the trees and the expressions on your islanders faces. It’s all fantastically done. Seriously, I’m writing this review and I’m trying to find fault visually and I can’t. Well done Nintendo.
Right, onto audio… this isn’t as perfect. I really enjoyed the sounds and music at the beginning of my island rejuvenation but I very, VERY quickly got tired of some of the sound. The voices of the characters, simply put, are irritating. A lot of people may find them cute but I struggle with them. The music and sound effects on the game are extremely calming, which soothes my bubbling hatred of certain characters, I’m looking at you Antonio!
The story in the game can be described as invisible. In essence there is no story. The closest thing to a story you can get is your struggles to get the global superstar KK Slider to visit and hold a concert on your island. This happens when your island rating reaches 3 stars, which with a little focus, doesn’t take long at all. After that it’s pretty much do whatever you like.
The gameplay of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that same style you know and love from its predecessors with modern day improvements. Instead of becoming a town mayor you become the islander representative, responsible for making sure your island lifestyle is the best it can be for you and your island neighbours. At points you may find yourself carrying out the same repetitive tasks and begin to struggle with seeing the longevity of the game but then all of a sudden you’ll be hit by some kind of inspiration on how you can change your island and the process begins again.
Controls will be a short review, they couldn’t be easier. They even allow you to trade your ‘Nook Miles’ for upgrades that make the controls even easier. Everyone from an adult to a young child can successfully navigate and carry out all that they need to do.
With all things considered, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a superb game that is a
must have for any fans of the series. Also if you are new to Animal Crossing you will have such fun breathing life into your little island paradise as long as you aren’t troubled by the islanders voices or Antonio. I really can’t deal with that guy! Like seriously he wears glasses nowhere near his eyes!
Great, imaginative fun for all the family, don’t miss the game that most of the world adores!
