Becstar is a star hopping mercenary-gone-full time-gambler light years away from earth. Leaving her old life behind with the help of her magical luck dagger and her fan-turned-regret filled-friend Sally Soolin, Becstar ekes out a living under the nefarious Shadow Syndicate’s radar. But when a mysterious girl appears with grim news and an urgent quest where the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Becstar has no choice but to join… and regret it immediately.
The beginning of what promises to be an action packed, fun filled comic run. As explained above by the plot, in this story we follow a Han Solo-esq pilot through her adventures after being approached by a mysterious stranger.
Joe Corallo comes straight out the gates with a sci-fi adventure that has a pirate-y feel to it, you know the kind...captains, treasures, fighting, jokes, gambling, drinking... but in space! What’s not to love. Issue 1 sees us meet the main characters and have the back story described to us by Becstar upon her meeting with the mysterious stranger.
Artistically, this comic is a treat for the eyes, some beautifully drawn panels coupled with some outstanding colouration set the scene perfectly and marry with the story itself like a cup of tea and biscuits! That’s a really good thing for those that haven’t heard that very British saying, although I don't think Becstar will be overly bothered by tea. I don't think it'll hit the spot like whatever she was referring to as 'watered down'.
I honestly had a blast reading the opening issue of Becstar and I'm already patiently waiting for the next issue, if waiting means constantly refreshing the Mad Cave Studios website, waiting for it to be available! Expertly written quick wittiness and a fantastically developed story mixed in with a swashbuckling space adventure premise are sure to put Becstar on the pull lists of many readers. An out of this world opening, bring on more…(Sorry for the space pun there).
Your drinks are watered down trash anyway! I’ve never been so hydrated in my life! - Becstar
