Directed by Dean Parisot with returning franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the film will continue to track the time-traveling exploits of William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. and Theodore "Ted" Logan. Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends — to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.
Immediately upon starting the movie I felt like I had time travelled back to when I was younger watching the original movies. Keanu and Alex do a good job of stepping back into the shoes of Bill and Ted. Sometimes it did seem to me that Keanu was a bit tired of the role, he just seemed to lack a passion for the part. That being said, he does kind of suit the underlying fear of losing everything, maybe this is what the director and Keanu were going for.
The premise of the entire movie is pretty much the same as the previous movies with the added element of Bill & Ted’s daughters mimicking previous activities from the original movies. I really enjoyed the meetings of Bill & Ted’s throughout the movie. In fact, it was my favourite part. There’s a scene with buckets… watch and you’ll see… but it had my chuckling for a while.
A nostalgic trip back to my childhood full of cameos and nods to the original movies that will have you smiling from ear to ear, don’t expect awards, it’s not an award-winning movie but rather a nod to movie past that we can all smile about.
One thing we can always remember is… Be excellent to eachother!
