Legendary stories from a legendary writer. Hard travelling heroes is a hard hitting, politically motivated trip through america.
The human emotionally driven heroes Green Arrow and Green Lantern take one of the guardians of Oa through america. On the way they encounter native american indians, rednecks, fat cats and more. They also uncover; racism, greed, wealth division and all other manner of evils.
Dennis O’Neil delivers one of my favourite Green Arrow storytellings and I can’t believe I’ve not read this sooner. With beautiful art by Neal Adams, I found myself looking at a page long after I’ve read it, just to take in all the fine details that I didn’t want to miss.
The interactions with Earth-2 Black Canary were also really interesting with the cult-based story of Laurel being brainwashed into shooting Green Arrow or did she?? You’ll have to read to find out.
Given all that is going on in the world currently, these stories have rediscovered their poiniency (Not that the issues ever went away) and as usual I am found feeling exactly as Green Arrow does the whole way through. The social divisions and the problems that our world currently face cannot be ignored! If only we had our very own hard travelling heroes to help us in our time of need!
“You call yourself a hero! Chum...You don’t even qualify as a man! You’re no more than a puppet...and the guardians pull your strings!” - Green Arrow
