ENTER THE PHANTOM RANGER! Answering Zordon’s call, the Phantom Ranger investigates the aftermath of an Empyreal attack. Only to discover their connection to an ancient evil he encountered long ago… which may have finally returned to threaten the entire universe.

My Opinion

Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness is a fantastic new entry into the world of Power Rangers bringing a background story to the one and only...nah… you’ll have to read it to find out who it is!

In this issue we are introduced to the Phantom Ranger who is on a mission from Zordon which seems to be searching for signs of the Empyreals. We begin to recollect a story from the Phantom Rangers past which connects him to something made of pure evil and also a tiny version of a legend in the world of Power Rangers!

Frank Gogol has put a marker down on the Power Rangers comic world normally dominated by Kyle Higgins and Ryan Parrott. Edge of Darkness has been so fantastically written that it wouldn’t be out of place kicking it with the big boys like Shattered Grid! This is my first time reading Frank’s work and I am seriously impressed with his storytelling, he blended seamlessly into the universe and presented a really intriguing story.

The art in this is simply stunning. The character designs are epic and the fighting panels were exceptional, it seemed like the Phantom Ranger was flipping around the page and evil creatures were appearing from everywhere! The colours are vibrant and inviting which is true to a Power Rangers comic. I especially enjoyed the designs of the crow-like monsters, they looked like really evil versions of Ivan Ooze’s cronies from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie.

A story that is deep, full and highly interesting, stacked with Mighty Morphin Power Ranger lore, Edge of Darkness will have major effects on the wider Power Ranger universe in what promises to be a crucial moment in the history of MMPR.

“The morphin grid is the source of all life. It’s the reason Dark Specter cannot enter our dimension in his true form.” - Lady Fienna
