My Rating: 5 out of 5 🏹

When Krypton’s last son crash-lands in Cold War-era Russia instead of rural Kansas, an alternate reality unfolds in this DC Elseworlds adventure. Here, we find Superman spearheading a Communist campaign to advance the ideologies of the Soviet state.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, brilliant American scientist Lex Luthor devises a plan to rein in, and ultimately destroy, the alien Soviet threat. What follows is a gripping game of cat and mouse that will leave all of humanity hanging in the balance.

My Opinion

This movie is wow. Superman has never really been a favourite character of mine but i got so excited for this movie after reading the graphic novel.

A totally fresh take on the story of Superman, we encounter Supes, played by Jason Isaacs, in his prime working as a symbol of soviet power and influence. After saving the east coast of America from a satellite dropped by Lex Luthor, Superman is challenged to an interview by Lois Luthor (yeah i know, it feels wrong doesn’t it), Supes becomes aware that the Soviet Union isn’t flawless and discovers a gulag wrapped in lead. He finds his old friend Svetlana played by Winter Ave Zoli who subsequently dies because of the poor way of life. Superman confronts Stalin about the situation and uses his heat vision to murder him. Superman became the premier and well...GO WATCH IT! I’m not saying anymore about the story, you’ll need to experience it all for yourself.

A superb voice cast leads the charge of this masterpiece in DC animation. Director Sam Liu presents to us one of the true greats of DC animated movies. For me personally, it is battling it out for the top spot with Justice League: War as my favourite animated movie so far.

My favourite scene was the fight scene between Superman and Superior Man, the fight was fantastic and the result truly haunting. I urge you to get this movie. Do not miss out on this. Even if you are not a huge fan of the animated movies or comic book movies in general, you still need to check this out, even as a what if scenario regarding the cold war.

The absolute highlight of this captivating epic for me is watching the different variations of each hero. Especially Batman. He was evil(ish) and I liked it. Be on the look out for lots of Green Lanterns, Lex, Jimmy Olson, Wonder Woman and others!

I really hope you enjoy this review and be sure to let me know your views on the movie too.
